Agra: A 60-year-old woman was killed after being run over by a crane deployed for metro construction work on MG Road in Agra on Wednesday evening, police said.The victim, Urmila, mother of a Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) constable, was travelling on a scooter with her daughter, Komal, to buy medicines when their vehicle was allegedly hit by the crane near Raja Ki Mandi intersection around 6 pm.
Urmila fell onto the road.Eyewitnesses said the crane ran over her and dragged her for nearly 20 metres, killing her on the spot, while Komal sustained minor injuries. The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled, causing a traffic jam along MG Road.Based on a complaint lodged at Loha Mandi police station, an FIR was registered against the driver under BNS sections 281 (negligent driving) and 106(1) (causing death by a rash or negligent act). Efforts are underway to trace him.ACP Gaurav Singh said, “A case has been registered against the driver and further necessary legal action is being taken.”
