BPSC (mains) exam begins at 22 centres amid tight security

Patna: The 71st combined competitive examination (mains) conducted by the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) commenced on Saturday at 22 centres across the city amid tight security arrangements.

Of the 13,024 candidates who qualified the preliminary examination, around 85% turned up to appear for the first day of the mains test.According to BPSC deputy secretary Kundan Kumar, examinations in both shifts were conducted peacefully and without any untoward incident. “The exam passed off peacefully, and most candidates appeared satisfied with the standard of the questions,” he told TOI.In the first sitting, held from 9.30am to 12.30pm, candidates appeared for the Hindi qualifying paper.

The second sitting, scheduled between 2.30pm and 5pm, was for the essay paper. Examinations will remain suspended on Sunday and resume on Monday with papers for optional subjects. The mains examination is slated to conclude on April 30.Candidates arriving at various centres reported a hassle-free experience. An examinee at Bankipur Government Girls Higher Secondary School said the questions were general in nature and did not pose any major difficulty.

“The real test will begin with the optional subjects from Monday,” he said.BPSC officials said candidates were instructed to reach their centres at least an hour before the scheduled start time. Electronic gadgets, bags, large purses and smartwatches were strictly prohibited inside the examination halls. Adequate security personnel were deployed at all centres to regulate entry and exit and ensure the fair and smooth conduct of the examination.
