Coimbatore brought under high security blanket ahead of visits by Modi, Stalin

COIMBATORE: The city is under tight security ahead of the visits by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister M K Stalin, who are scheduled to campaign in the city on Saturday.The city police and district administration have deployed 2,600 police personnel and intensified surveillance across key locations.Modi will address a public meeting at Codissia Grounds on Avinashi Road on Saturday evening. The venue is being prepared to host more than two lakh people.At the same time, Stalin will lead an election campaign in Mettupalayam. He will canvass for DMK and alliance candidates from Mettupalayam, Ooty, Gudalur, Coonoor, Kavundampalayam, and Thondamuthur constituencies.Union home minister Amit Shah is also expected to pass through Coimbatore and stay overnight on Saturday after campaigning in Erode.The district administration has declared Avinashi Road, Peelamedu and Hope College as red zones. Flying drones and unmanned aerial vehicles has been banned from Friday evening to Sunday evening. Private vehicle movement near the airport and along Avinashi Road will be restricted from 4pm to 8pm on Saturday. Officials have warned of strict legal action against anyone violating the security measures.
