Dharali disaster hits Harsil board results

Uttarkashi: The impact of last year’s Dharali disaster was reflected in the board results of Govt Inter School, Harsil, where only three of seven students who appeared for classes 10 and 12 examinations passed.

School officials said several students were directly affected by the disaster, with homes and study materials lost.Sumit Gusain, the school’s examination in-charge, said three of the students had their houses buried under debris. “Their educational materials — including notebooks and textbooks — were also lost,” he said. The disaster had a psychological impact on students as well, affecting their preparations.

One of the girls had to stay with relatives in Uttarkashi and travel around 80km to reach the exam centre, but could not clear the tests.Among those who appeared, the lone male student in Class 12 did not pass, while both female students from Dharali who took the Class 10 exam were also unsuccessful. At Govt High School, Jhala, results of two students were affected due to the absence of a mathematics teacher for a long period. Principal Omesh Gahtori said a teacher was posted only two months before the exams.
