Elon Musk’s Nashville project is facing opposition, one of the reasons is ...

Elon Musk’s Boring Company is facing growing opposition from residents in Nashville as the company moves forward with its plan to build an underground transport system, says a recent survey conducted by Vanderbilt University.

The survey found that public opinion shift significantly when Musk’s name is associated with the project. Opposition to the underground loop system had already surfaced among some residents. However, the project’s association with Musk seemed to intensify the resistance.

Survey shows rising opposition linked to Elon Musk

According to the Vanderbilt University survey, around 35% of Nashville residents opposed the proposed underground transport system when it was described without mentioning Elon Musk.

However, opposition rose to 51% when respondents were told the project was led by Musk’s Boring Company.Researchers said the results show that political views and opinions about Musk are shaping how people respond to the project. The report noted that public support is “heavily influenced by partisanship.”Elon Musk has been a controversial figure in recent years due to his political involvement, including financial support for Donald Trump and his role in a government cost-cutting initiative.

Project plans and progress

The proposed “Music City Loop” aims to connect downtown Nashville with Nashville International Airport using Tesla vehicles running through underground tunnels. The system is expected to reduce travel time to around 10 minutes and ease traffic on city roads. The project is privately funded and is estimated to cost between $200 million and $300 million. The Boring Company has also said the loop could remove thousands of vehicles from surface roads each day.Concerns remain as expansion continuesThe Nashville city council has already voted to oppose the project, reflecting local concerns. At the same time, the company’s earlier Las Vegas Loop project has faced criticism over safety issues and operational challenges. The Nashville survey results could create challenges for future projects, as the Boring Company explores expansion plans in cities like New Orleans, Baltimore and Dallas.
