Fact check: Did Justin Herbert and Charlie Kirk share lunch outing in Los Angeles

A routine lunch outing has unexpectedly pulled Justin Herbert into an online swirl, though not for anything tied to football. The Los Angeles Chargers quarterback was photographed at a restaurant in Los Angeles alongside his girlfriend, Madison Beer, whose recent beach photos have already kept her trending.

But it was a man seated across from Herbert who caught social media’s attention, sparking a wave of speculation that quickly drifted far from reality.

What sparked the Justin Herbert lunch rumor, and why is it incorrect

The image, widely shared on X, led some users to wonder if Justin Herbert was dining with Charlie Kirk. The guesses came quickly and with confidence. “Is that who I think it is???” one user asked, zooming into the photo. Another posted a separate image of Kirk for comparison, while a third joked, “Charlie Scheffler? Scotty Kirk?”

The problem is simple. Kirk cannot be the person in that photo.

He was killed on September 10, 2025, during a speaking event at Utah Valley University. Authorities charged Tyler Robinson with aggravated murder in the case. That alone puts the speculation to rest, though the speed at which the rumor spread says plenty about how quickly online narratives can form around incomplete information.

Herbert, for his part, has far more pressing concerns than internet guesswork. The 2025 season tested him in ways that rarely show up in highlight reels.

A battered offensive line limited what the Chargers could do offensively, leaving their franchise quarterback under constant pressure. Despite that, the team still managed an 11-6 record, only to exit in the first round of the playoffs once again.Injuries played a major role. Rookie Joe Alt featured in just six games, while Rashawn Slater missed the entire season. That instability up front forced adjustments week after week, often at the cost of rhythm and protection. There is a clear shift in approach heading into 2026. The Chargers have both draft capital and cap flexibility, tools they are expected to use to rebuild the line in front of Herbert. Holding the 22nd overall pick, along with selections at 55, 86, 123, and 204, the front office has room to be aggressive if needed. For now, what began as a casual lunch photo has turned into a brief internet mystery. The reality is far less dramatic, and far more grounded in a team trying to give its quarterback a fair chance to succeed.
