NEW DELHI: India’s netball and 3×3 basketball teams will not feature at the forthcoming CWG in Glasgow. Out of the 10 confirmed able-bodied sports on the programme, India will field athletes in eight disciplines — athletics, aquatics (swimming), track cycling, weightlifting, lawn bowls, artistic gymnastics, boxing, and judo. However, participation in weightlifting remains conditional, with Indian lifters required to meet qualification standards and selection criteria before securing their spots in the final contingent. The exclusion of netball and 3×3 basketball comes after both disciplines failed to meet the required qualification benchmarks. As a result, athletes from these sports were not included in the long list submitted by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to the Glasgow organising committee. India doesn’t currently feature in the official rankings of World Netball (WN), having failed to play the minimum number of matches against ranked teams in recent years. Similarly, India’s men’s and women’s 3×3 basketball teams could not progress through the qualification pathway.
