IPL: 'Mixture of hard lengths, bouncers and off-cutters' - Prasidh Krishna breaks down GT’s bowling formula

Gujarat Titans seamer Prasidh Krishna has said that reading the conditions well, varying pace and building a strong dressingroom culture were central to his 4/28 against Lucknow Super Giants, a spell that powered a seven-wicket win and took him to the top of the Purple Cap race.

Prasidh kept the focus on Gujarat Titans’ collective effort after his player-of-the-match spell set up GT’s seven-wicket win on Sunday. The haul helped GT restrict LSG to 164/8 before chasing it down in 18.4 overs.Despite his strong start to the season, the pacer said the result mattered far more than individual milestones. “We are just happy that we got the win for the team,” Prasidh said, adding that it was important for GT to build a winning streak after backing up the previous result with another solid allround display. He said his success in Lucknow came from reading conditions quickly and varying pace and length smartly. Prasidh said “a mixture of hard lengths, bouncers and off-cutters” worked for him, especially when other bowlers were also using the short ball and he could surprise batters with a change-up. He stressed that T20 bowling is about adapting to the surface rather than following one option. At Ekana, he said, both batters and bowlers were tested and any lapse in line or length was punished.

“As a bowler, you can bowl a yorker, you can bowl a length ball, you can bowl a bouncer. So we just try and play around with those things and on certain days some balls really work well and you stick with it,” Prasidh said, adding, “The pitch was challenging, I would say. Even for the bowlers, if you didn’t get your line on them right, the ball wouldn’t travel. We saw that in the Powerplay as we missed the slots. They played quite a few good shots.

It was quite challenging for both bowlers and the batsmen.”
