Under the tie-up, the company integrated ChatGPT’s advanced AI directly into the streaming platform, promising to change how its users discover movies, shows and even live sports.

How JioHotstar Conversational Voice Discovery works
The standout feature of CVD is its ability to understand natural language. So instead of searching for “Comedy Movies,” users can now speak to the app as if they were talking to a friend. Since the AI understands intent and context, you can give it complex prompts like, “Suggest a light-hearted show that I can watch with family”, and the AI will search the full library to offer selected titles.
During our initial testing, we searched for “It was a long day. I want to see something funny,” and the feature returned a list of comedy shows and movies. The system analysed our mood and the context of our request to provide personalised recommendations instantly, effectively ending the “what should we watch?” debate.One of the best features is the ability to understand Hindi and Hinglish – Hindi + English – something we use to converse in our daily lives.
For example, we asked the platform: “Koi horror movie suggest Karo.” The ChatGPT-powered engine handles the request effortlessly.For sports fans, you can even talk about live games. We asked, “English Premier League mein Arsenal Ki highlights Dikhao”, and the app returned with highlight clips of multiple Arsenal matches.However, there were instances when the app returned no result. For example, when asked “Iss weekend mein Premier League Ke Kaunse matches Hain?”, it returned with the message that it cannot provide the time schedules or real-time scores.

JioHotstar’s Conversational Voice Discovery feature helps users save time by letting them describe their mood and tell the AI what they want to watch, rather than waiting and scrolling through virtually endless shows and movies.It is important to clarify that while this feature is powered by OpenAI’s technology, it is optimised specifically for content discovery and recommendations; it is not a general-purpose chatbot like ChatGPT. It focuses on doing one thing, which is finding your next favourite show, with maximum efficiency.
