June 15 deadline set for MCG to plan monsoon preparedness

Gurgaon: Haryana’s industries and commerce minister Rao Narbir Singh has directed MCG to finalise a monsoon preparedness plan before June 15.During a meeting at the PWD rest house on Monday, the minister instructed departments to ensure proper water drainage arrangements, especially in the Najafgarh drain area, Narsingpur and areas around the National Highway, adding that a review meeting will be held again around June 15 to assess the progress of preparations.During the meeting, GMDA officials said work is being carried out at nine waterlogging hotspots in the city. Moreover, cleaning of approximately 160-kilometre-long surface drains is also underway. Officials also said that work is being done to lower central verges and green belt areas below road level so that water flow remains smooth.In Narsingpur, the temporary drain constructed last year to improve water drainage is now being upgraded into a permanent concrete structure.

Drain connectivity is also being strengthened at IFFCO Chowk, Signature Tower Chowk, Rajiv Chowk and Hero Honda Chowk to ensure smooth and unobstructed water flow, officials said.They said 40 waterlogging hotspots have already been identified, and work has been completed at most locations. The target is to complete work at the remaining locations before the monsoon arrives. They said work is being carried out to improve connectivity in areas connected to the master drain.

Micro STPs installed in various parks of the city are fully operational, said officials.Sewerage problem at Rajendra Park area was also discussed during the meeting, and it was assured that the work will be completed by April-end. Moreover, supply of treated water has been arranged in 142 parks in the city, and work at the remaining locations is in progress, officials said.
