Magic diet and no steroids: Meet the Chennai construction worker who built ripped abs with 'simple food' and discipline

A Chennai construction worker has become an accidental fitness icon with his shredded physique, achieved through a simple, consistent routine. Despite long hours of manual labor, he follows a five-day bodybuilding split at the gym and relies on home-cooked meals, primarily white rice, sambar, and vegetables, eschewing trendy diets and supplements.

Flashy gym reels, expensive protein tubs often go viral, but recently a “magic” diet plan has gone viral, thanks to a young construction worker from Chennai who has become an accidental fitness icon. His story isn’t about shortcuts or celebrity endorsements; it’s about a simple, relentlessly consistent routine that turns long hours of manual labour into a full‑time body‑shaping workout.

The video which has gone viral, was posted by a Chennai‑based fitness content creator Jayachandran Tamilarasan on Instagram, where he calls himself “fit.blog.by.jc”. The clip shows the worker’s shredded physique, which looks almost unreal given his job, and quickly went viral, with people asking how he built “ripped abs” without fancy gear or imported supplements.

He revealed his magical gym routine after hard day’s work

Despite spending his daylight hours lifting heavy materials and doing intense physical labour, the construction worker follows a strict five‑day bodybuilding‑style routine at the gym. According to him, “I do chest workout on Monday, shoulder workout on Tuesday, Wednesday is back workout, Thursday is biceps and triceps, and Friday is for leg workout.”

He is careful not to overdo legs because of his job: “I don’t do extreme leg workouts,” he explains, as he still needs to move and lift on site the next day.

This selective but focused approach, along with a naturally high‑activity lifestyle helps him maintain muscle definition without spending hours in the gym.

What stands out most is his diet

Instead of following any trendy “no‑carb” or “low‑carb” plan, he leans heavily on white rice and simple, home‑cooked food.He clearly states, “No idli, dosa,” before detailing his staples, which include white rice, rice porridge, and red bananas. He adds, “I eat only white rice along with sambar, rasam, and curries made of beetroot, carrot, and other vegetables.

I only eat white rice for all three meals. I rarely eat fruits, and have non‑veg once a week. Only mutton once a week, no chicken or fish.”

This kind of high‑carb, largely home‑cooked approach runs counter to many modern “gym‑diet” charts that push brown rice, protein shakes, and multiple small meals. Yet, because of his calorie‑burning day job and regular sleep, the worker stays lean without any special diet plan.

Natural strength, no steroids

When people ask how he got such a defined body, many of which first suspect steroids or supplements.

The worker shuts that down quickly, “No, I don’t [take steroids],” he says.He then summarises his whole method: “I eat, work and then gym; and don’t follow any diet; not even whey protein.” He also stresses sleep and lifestyle, saying he gets about seven hours of sleep every night and stays away from alcohol and smoking.

A simple message to the public

The construction worker’s advice is simple. He urges, “Eat home‑cooked food. Don’t eat junk food.

Avoid alcohol and smoking.”His lifestyle is not about expensive memberships or imported supplements, it is about discipline, hard work, and basic nutrition. For many viewers, his story is a reminder that while fitness is often sold as a luxury hobby, it can still be built on the age‑old pillars of “eat clean, move hard, and sleep well.”
