Man held for double murder in Palamu

Indian-origin Man held guilty of murder after 30 years in UK.

Daltonganj: A 25-year-old man was arrested for allegedly murdering two men in the district earlier this year, the police said on Tuesday. The accused Chunmun Chowdhury alias Ajit was sent to judicial custody while his accomplices are at large.

The murders took place for Rs 1,300, the police said.On Jan 16, the partially burnt body of Shankar Ram (37) was found near a water body under the Chainpur police station. On the same, another man, identified as Kareewa, was found dead near Daltonganj railway station.“Shankar had Rs 1,300 with him. His drug (marijuana) partner wanted the money which Shankar denied. On this, he was hit on the head and then he was set ablaze,” Palamu SP Reeshma Rameshan said.Kareewa witnessed the murder. “Initially, he was given Rs 300 to remain silent, but he later turned defiant. Enraged, Chunmun later stoned him to death,” added SP. Police claimed the deceased and the accused were part of a group of drug addicts.
