Man slits own throat outside minister’s office in Gandhinagar, saved

Ahmedabad: A 40-year-old man allegedly attempted suicide outside a minister’s office at Swarnim Sankul-1 in the Gandhinagar secretariat on Monday, triggering panic among officials and security personnel.Maksud Gulzar, a resident of Vatva, reportedly came to the secretariat to submit a representation regarding a personal matter. While waiting outside the minister’s office, he suddenly used the blade he was carrying to slit his throat in an apparent suicide bid. Security personnel and staff present at the spot immediately rushed to his aid. The injured man received preliminary treatment and was later shifted to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital for further medical care, where officials said his condition was stable.Police have launched an inquiry into the incident and are trying to ascertain the reason behind the step. Security arrangements at the secretariat are also being reviewed following the incident.
