Matteo Berrettini stuns Daniil Medvedev with dominant win as Russian reacts in frustration
Before his exit, Berrettini had one of his best matches in recent times. He defeated Daniil Medvedev in a very one-sided match at the Monte Carlo Masters. The scoreline shocked many fans, especially because Medvedev is a former world number one.Medvedev struggled badly during the match. He made around 30 unforced errors and failed to build any rhythm. At one point, he could not even hold his serve. Berrettini, on the other hand, stayed sharp from the start and never gave him a chance.Speaking after the match, Berrettini said, “I think it was one of the best performances of my life.” The quote was shared by the ATP Tour. He also added, “I faced two break points in the first game and then after that it felt I was playing better than him.
I was not expecting to win zero, zero like that.”The frustration showed on Medvedev’s side. During the match, he smashed his racket multiple times on the clay court. Later, he threw the broken frame into a trash can. Because of this, he received a code violation for unsportsmanlike conduct and may also face a fine.
