The New York Islanders won a thriller of a game 2-1 against the San Jose Sharks on Saturday night as star forward Bo Horvat scored the game-winning goal with 4:20 left in overtime at SAP Center.Bo Horvat ended the game with a great goal as he broke through the San Jose defense and went five-hole on goaltender Yaroslav Askarov to give the Islanders a much-needed win. The win gives the Islanders a record of 36-23-5 on the season and snaps a brief two-game losing streak.

New York Islanders head coach Patrick Roy complimented the team’s effort as well as the goal in overtime. “We had a really good first period. Ilya (Sorokin) made some really good saves,” he said.

“That was a big overtime goal by Bo and a great play by Schaefer to give us that breakaway.”Ilya Sorokin played a vital part in the Islanders’ winning the game. Sorokin made 30 saves to keep the Islanders in the game for long stretches. The Islanders got a first-period goal from defenseman Tony DeAngelo. DeAngelo’s wrist shot from the right circle went off the glove of goaltender Saros and into the net at 11:37.For the Sharks, rising star Macklin Celebrini extended his point streak to 11 games by scoring for the third game in a row.

The rookie tied the game 33 seconds into the second period off a pass from Will Smith. Celebrini went in alone on Sorokin and beat the goaltender with a shot to the glove.However, despite the loss, the Sharks coach, Ryan Warsofsky, praised his team’s effort against a difficult opponent. San Jose, with the win, improves their record to 30-25-6 and extends their winning streak to five games without a regulation loss.On the other hand, Jean-Gabriel Pageau, an Islander’s forward, praised his team’s defensive effort throughout the course of the game.

“I thought we played a solid game all around,” he said. “Both goalies were really good. A lot of blocked shots from the guys. A lot of sacrifice. We finished with the extra point, so it was huge.”Additionally, the Islanders had the debut of veteran forward Brayden Schenn, who was acquired from the St. Louis Blues the previous day. Schenn played over 17 minutes in his debut and impressed his new coach.This win has put the Islanders alongside the Vegas Golden Knights as the only two teams in the history of the league to win the first nine games of the season.
