NHRC official suggests starting HR courses in varsities, colleges

Ranchi: The National Human Rights Commission’s (NHRC) special monitor Kanhaiyya Tripathi, who is visiting different universities and colleges in Jharkhand, since Wednesday emphasised starting courses on human rights (HR) and forming cells to address grievances related to the issue.

He has also stressed that the educational institutions should work on ensuring gender equality on campuses.While on a visit to Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University on Thursday, he advised the university to start a course on ‘HR and leadership’ and also create a gallery illustrating pictures and quotes of prominent HR activists.He further asked the university to submit a report on present status of gender sensitization on its campus and the improvement plans.

The DSPMU vice-chancellor Dr Rajiv Manohar, senior officers and teachers took part in the interaction.During his visit to the Ranchi University (RU) on Wednesday he said that HR clubs and cells should be formed in all colleges, adding that the university should be their nodal centres.He said that RU should start a certificate course in HR and hold workshop and seminars on the issue every year.He also asked the RU to submit report on HR violations while stating that the eligible professors who have not been promoted for a long period should also mention their cases in it.
