Bhubaneswar: NISER Bhubaneswar will conduct research to evaluate the anti-cancer potential of homoeopathic medicines against gallbladder cancer. Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH) under the Ayush ministry will collaborate with the national institute for this work. This study aims to strengthen evidence-based research in homoeopathy by exploring mechanistic insights and therapeutic potential through rigorous experimental models. Manjusha Dixit, associate professor of biological sciences at NISER Bhubaneswar, is the principal investigator of this project.Dixit said she will be working on finding out the effect of some selected homoeopathy medicines in controlling gallbladder cancer.
“I will use cell culture-based techniques and animal models. We will try to see whether the selected medicines work or not. If they are effective, we will try to determine the mechanism of how they are working,” she added. The researcher said the homoeopathy medicines can go for human trial if they get positive findings from the study.
Three researchers, including two from CCRH, will be part of this two-year-long collaborative project, she added.
“India has one of the highest incidences of gallbladder cancer. Around 10% of the total cases reported in the world. Within India, there are certain states where the frequency of gallbladder cancer cases is high. Odisha is one of them. That’s why we picked up gallbladder cancer for research,” said Dixit.Studies have been done on genetic predisposition that suggests that people might be having something in their gene and because of that, they are more prone to gallbladder cancer. “This time, I am trying the therapeutic angle to test whether homoeopathy drugs can be effective to fight against cancer,” said the researcher, who is conducting research on different types of cancer. An MoU was signed between NISER Bhubaneswar and CCRH in New Delhi recently for the collaborative research.
