The Pokémon Company has revealed new promo cards for the upcoming Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) Mega Evolution: Chaos Rising Build & Battle boxes ahead of their early release on May 9 in select stores.
The expansion itself is scheduled to launch on May 22, but players will get early access through prerelease events. The new set continues to focus on Mega Evolution mechanics tied to the Pokémon Legends: Z-A era, featuring powerful cards with gameplay trade-offs. Each Build & Battle box includes a ready-to-play deck, booster packs, and one of four promo cards, giving players an early look at the expansion.
Pokémon TCG new promo cards: What we know so far
As mentioned on the official Pokémon TCG website, the contents of each box will include a 40-card deck created by using cards from current and past sets, along with four booster packs.
Additionally, fans will receive one of four foil promotional cards: Delphox, Ampharos, Crobat, or Goodra.The boxes for this expansion will be made available from May 9 through selected Play! Pokémon Stores for their prerelease events, where players can experience the expansion before its official release on May 22. The prerelease event features a 40-card deck format and 4 Prize cards, so matches are likely to be shorter than usual.
As in previous expansions, each card has unique abilities, such as Delphox’s ability to cause damage based on the number of energies used; Ampharos’s attacks that depend on the size of the player’s hand; Crobat’s abilities that control the opponent’s deck; and Goodra’s ability to disrupt the opponent’s deck and plays.Furthermore, the inclusion of the Mega Evolutions mechanic in this expansion shows that it will likely continue to dominate in TCG until the appearance of the next generation of Pokémon games in 2027.
