Patna: The academic council of Patliputra University (PPU) on Thursday approved several key academic and administrative decisions, including the introduction of new undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) courses from the upcoming academic sessions, changes in examination patterns under the four-year CBCS programme and measures to strengthen transparency in research.The decisions were taken at a meeting chaired by vice-chancellor Upendra Prasad Singh, with an emphasis on expanding career-oriented education and improving academic standards across the university and its constituent colleges. The meeting concluded with a consensus on prioritising student-centric policies and strengthening institutional capacity for the university’s long-term growth.PPU registrar Abu Bakar said the proposed programmes aim to align academic offerings with evolving career opportunities.
“The introduction of new self-financed courses will benefit students from diverse backgrounds, with special attention to empowering girl students. Expanding access to relevant and career-oriented education will help young women pursue higher studies with greater independence and build sustainable livelihoods,” he said.In another major decision, the academic council approved the proposal to conduct examinations for ability enhancement courses (AEC), skill enhancement courses (SEC) and value-added courses (VAC) under the four-year CBCS programme through objective-type questions on optical mark recognition (OMR) sheets from the next academic session.
The council also approved making videography of PhD viva voce examinations mandatory for all research scholars to ensure transparency and fairness. In addition, it decided to set up a research advisory council (RAC) for foreign students interested in pursuing research programmes at the university.Later, the vice-chancellor stressed the need for continuous academic innovation and efficient administration to meet the expectations of students and other stakeholders.
He urged council members to work collectively to ensure timely implementation of the decisions.Among those present were dean of students’ welfare Rajiv Ranjan; coordinator of the college development council Shiv Kumar Yadav; TPS College principal Tapan Kumar Shandaliya; A N College principal Rekha Kumari; College of Commerce, Arts and Science principal Khalid Ahmad; Arun Kumar, Imtiyaz Hassan, Chhaya Singh, Ritanshu Mala, Kamal Prasad and others, sources said.PPU Degree Sem VI exams from April 27Patna: Patliputra University (PPU) has announced the datesheet for the Degree Semester VI examinations, which will be held from April 27 to May 2. The exams will be conducted in two sittings each day — from 10am to 1pm for arts stream students and from 2pm to 5pm for science and commerce stream students, PPU examination controller Manoj Kumar said on Thursday.He said the university administration has directed heads of colleges across Patna and Nalanda districts to make necessary arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the examinations.
“Adequate infrastructure, timely distribution of question papers and strict adherence to examination protocols have been emphasised,” Kumar said.To ensure transparency and fairness, observers will be deployed at each examination centre to monitor proceedings and prevent irregularities, he added.Meanwhile, the university is preparing for the admission process for Degree Part I (regular course). PPU plans to admit around 1.5 lakh students, with the admission portal likely to open in the last week of April.Registrar Abu Bakar said steps have been taken to ensure the examination process and the admission drive are conducted smoothly with minimal inconvenience to students.
