RAIPUR: In a feat that blends discipline with determination, an eight-year-old girl from the city has earned a black belt in karate, making her among the youngest achievers of the distinction in Chhattisgarh.Tvisha Goyal, a Class 3 student and daughter of Dr Vivek Goyal, was awarded her black belt on April 12 after clearing a rigorous examination conducted by a Japanese evaluator earlier this year in Bhubaneswar.Tvisha began training at the age of four, inspired by her mother, Dr Chanan Goyal, a paediatric physiotherapist who is also a black belt. The mother-daughter duo trains under Sensei Krishnendu Das.Her journey has included advanced training stints in Bengaluru earlier this year and at the Japan Karate Association headquarters in Tokyo in 2025 — rare exposure for someone her age.Despite her young age, Tvisha has already built an impressive competitive record. She won her first gold medal at five in a national championship in Nainital and has since bagged 19 medals, including 10 golds, across state, national and international events. Her achievements were recognised in 2024 when she was felicitated by the Agrawal Samaj in the presence of chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai.Her coach Sensei Krishnendu Das said that, to the best of his knowledge, Tvisha is among the youngest to achieve a black belt in the state, crediting her consistency and family support. Her story underscores how early mentorship and a supportive environment can shape exceptional young talent.
