Retired IAS Subodh Agarwal sent to 14-day custody in Jal Jeevan Mission scam

Ex-IAS Subodh Agarwal remanded to judicial custody

JAIPUR: Retired IAS officer Subodh Agarwal was on Wednesday sent to 14-day judicial custody in connection with the alleged Rs 960-crore Jal Jeevan Mission scam. Agarwal, who was arrested on April 10, had been in police custody.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) produced him before an ACB court after completion of his remand period. The court rejected the ACB’s plea for further police custody and remanded him to judicial custody. Speaking to reporters outside the court, Agarwal’s lawyer Vedant Sharma said that four tenders were issued during Agarwal’s tenure, while 33 tenders pertained to his predecessor and should be probed. A team of the ACB had arrested Agarwal last week in connection with the case. According to investigators, some firms allegedly secured tenders by submitting forged completion certificates in connivance with officials. Last month, the ACB arrested nine persons, including senior engineers and retired officials, in connection with the scam. Contractors had also been arrested earlier.
