Samsung unveils Project Luna: A look at the company's AI robot companion

Samsung has showcased its vision for the home of the future. At Milan Design Week 2026, the tech giant officially unveiled Project Luna, a robotic AI companion designed to bridge the gaps in your smart home.

The South Korean company teased the device in YouTube Short, showing a “concept” rather than a guaranteed product, signaling a more grounded approach to home robotics.Project Luna looks less like a machine and more like a character. It consists of a round screen mounted on a swiveling head, allowing it to turn and look at users, according to the details shared by Fast Company. It adds that Samsung’s design team focused on making the robot approachable.

Instead of a robotic voice, Project Luna reportedly communicates using playful beeps and boops. Its “face” is a pulsating orb graphic that serves as its eyes and mouth, helping it express personality.

Samsung AI moves beyond the smartphones and wearables

The big idea behind Project Luna isn’t just to have a robot rolling around your kitchen. Samsung is using it to showcase a shift from “personal AI” to “communal AI”. The device has multiple functionalities:

The AI persona can “jump” from the Luna robot to your TV, a speaker, or even a projector.

Moreover, if you move from the kitchen to the living room, the AI follows you by appearing on whichever screen or speaker is closest, the report said. Luna also acts as the “conductor” for all other Samsung appliances.

When Samsung will launch Project Luna

Mauro Porcini, Samsung’s chief design officer, emphasised that these products are meant to show the “vibe” and “design language” the company is moving toward.“The idea is to give a feeling of the kind of language we want to use,” Porcini said. Samsung also showcased a unique AI-powered square speaker featuring an exposed, spinning vinyl record on its side. This device uses a glowing interface and a dynamic equalizer to “come to life” when playing music, blending retro style with futuristic intelligence.
