Six cottages of beach resort gutted in fire at Ashvem

Panaji/Mapusa: Less than 15 days after a fire at Arambol beach gutted six private shacks, six cottages of the Dallas Beach Resort at Ashvem were gutted in a fire on Thursday night. The blaze, which was reported around 8.45pm, quickly engulfed the wooden structures of the resort near the Ajoba temple.

While the property sustained extensive damage, authorities confirmed there was no loss of life or injuries reported in the incident. The resort started its operation three years ago and had 12 cottages. Some of the cottages were occupied by tourists. Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar said the guests of the resort left the place immediately after the fire was noticed.Firefighters from the Pernem and Mapusa fire stations were engaged in dousing the blaze.

“The fire spread within minutes. As the structures were made of wood, with plywood flooring and plastic fittings,” said a local resident at the site.Preliminary investigations by the directorate of fire and emergency services suggest that the fire may have originated from a short circuit in the resort’s generator set. Mandrem police also arrived at the site to assist in cordoning off the area and managing the crowd. Officials are conducting a detailed panchanama to assess the loss. The recurring fires at wooden beachside establishments have raised concerns regarding fire safety compliance.
