Special prayers held at Mahabodhi Temple

Patna: Special prayers were held at the Mahabodhi Temple on Saturday morning to mark the International Day for Monuments and Sites. Devotees and temple authorities gathered in the sanctum sanctorum before the statue of Lord Buddha at the Unesco world heritage site in Bodh Gaya.Bodh Gaya Temple Management Committee (BTMC) member secretary Mahashweta Maharathi said, “This hallowed site continues to inspire millions across the world, transcending the boundaries of nation, culture and faith.”Highlighting the temple’s architectural and spiritual significance, Maharathi said the structure, with its towering pyramidal spire and intricately carved façade, reflects the evolution of early Indian brick architecture.

“It remains a living centre of devotion, meditation and pilgrimage, drawing seekers in pursuit of peace, wisdom and self-realisation,” she added.“The occasion serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility to preserve global heritage. The Mahabodhi Temple is not merely a monument of the past, but a living beacon of compassion, harmony and awakening for present and future generations,” she added.
