Spotify's tablet app finally feels like it was made for a tablet

Spotify has launched a revamped app for tablets, offering a truly native experience for larger screens. The new design features a dynamic interface that adapts to both portrait and landscape modes, introducing a “parallel browsing” feature with a collapsible sidebar. This allows users to explore recommendations or their library while music continues to play, enhancing discovery on tablets.

Spotify has rolled out a redesigned app for Android and iOS tablets, and it’s the first time the experience has been built specifically for larger screens rather than just stretched out.The biggest change is how the app handles orientation. Instead of simply resizing when you flip your tablet, the interface now fully reconfigures between portrait and landscape—layouts shift, not just scale. A collapsible sidebar sits alongside playback, letting you scroll through recommendations or your library without interrupting what’s playing. Spotify calls this “parallel browsing,” and it’s exactly what it sounds like. The “Switch to Video” toggle has also been moved somewhere more accessible, making it easier to jump into a more immersive viewing experience. The bottom navigation bar stays put—Home, Search, Your Library, Create—keeping things familiar for anyone already used to the phone app.The redesign had quietly appeared for some users earlier this year during testing, but as of April 16, it’s officially out for everyone on both iPad and Android.

On Android, it also works on select foldables—confirmed on the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Honor Magic V6, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold, though not on the Oppo Find N6. That’s likely down to aspect ratio or screen density rather than any deliberate exclusion.Nicole Burrow, Spotify’s head of design for consumer experience, put it plainly: “From TV to desktop to the car, we’ve been designing Spotify to feel native to each screen—and now we’re bringing that same experience to tablets. Tablets give you more room to explore, so we designed it to let you browse and discover new favorites alongside what’s already playing. The goal was simple: Wherever you open Spotify, it should feel unmistakably like Spotify.
