Surge in fire incidents, one injured in NW Delhi

New Delhi: A series of fire incidents were reported across the capital amid an ongoing heatwave, keeping emergency services on high alert. Delhi Fire Service (DFS) received more than 180 calls on Monday, slightly lower than Sunday’s tally of 190.

No major injuries or casualties were reported.Late Sunday night, a fire broke out at a plastic warehouse in northwest Delhi’s Aman Vihar, injuring a firefighter during the operation. DFS received a call at 11.15 pm, following which seven fire tenders were rushed to the spot.“A firefighter was injured during the operation and has been rushed to the hospital,” a CATS ambulance official at the site said. While a short circuit is suspected to have triggered the blaze, the exact cause is yet to be ascertained. On Monday morning, another major fire was reported at an open ground in Model Town, also in northwest Delhi. DFS received the call around 11.15 am and deployed eight fire tenders. Officials said the fire, which reportedly originated in garbage dumped at the open area, spread rapidly due to dry conditions and high temperatures.Later in the day, a fire was reported at Shram Shakti Bhawan in central Delhi. According to DFS officials, a call was received at 4.20 pm, following which six fire tenders were pressed into service. The blaze was brought under control within an hour, and no injuries were reported.Preliminary findings indicate that the fire at the govt building originated in an outdoor air-conditioning unit, said officials.
