The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Sunday expelled four party leaders from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress with immediate effect. The disciplinary action includes former Dhubri MLA Rasul Hoque (Bahadur), according to an official communication issued by the state Congress. The expulsion was carried out under the directive of APCC president and deputy leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi . The official order was signed by APCC General Secretary (Organisation) Ramanna Baruah and issued today. Apart from Rasul Hoque (Bahadur), the Congress has also expelled Rezaul Islam (Rinku), a ticket aspirant for the Dhubri legislative assembly constituency and former zilla parishad constituency member. Dhubri district Congress committee general secretary Mohir Uddin Mondal and Matchichar gram panchayat anchalik panchayat member Afzal Hussain have also been removed from the party's primary membership. The APCC order, however, does not specify the reasons or particular allegations that led to the disciplinary action against the four leaders. The decision comes with immediate effect, formally ending their primary membership of the Congress party. The expulsion of the four leaders, including a former legislator and local-level party functionaries, marks a significant organisational action by the Assam Congress and comes under the leadership of Gaurav Gogoi.
