Wheat procurement set to resume in Buxar

Farmers in Buxar can now sell their wheat through cooperative societies as the state government has significantly increased the procurement target to 6,040 metric tonnes. This revised goal, though still short of the total output, aims to alleviate farmers’ struggles with low open market prices.

Buxar: Wheat procurement through cooperative societies in the district is set to resume, offering relief to farmers. The state govt has increased the procurement target from 628 metric tonnes (MT) to 6,040 MT.Though the revised target is still below the district’s total wheat output, it is expected to ease the difficulties faced by farmers. Radheshyam Rai, a farmer from Dumraon, said the earlier low target had restricted procurement, forcing many to sell wheat in the open market at low prices. To streamline operations, the department of cooperative has selected 50 Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS). Procurement will be carried out through these societies, with around 1,200 quintals to be purchased per PACS under the new target.Officials said the earlier target of 628 MT had already been achieved, after which procurement had stalled. With the revised allocation, procurement will now restart in the selected societies.“This will enable farmers to sell their produce at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) through PACS and vyapar mandals,” said Chandrama Ram, district cooperative officer, Buxar.
