SHAMLI: In a case of alleged medical negligence, a 35-year-old woman delivered her baby on the roadside outside the Shamli District Combined Hospital after being denied admission by staff.Kaushar Begum (30), a resident of Asara village in Baghpat, was brought to the hospital by her family for delivery. However, hospital staff allegedly refused to admit her, asking them to take her somewhere else. When insisted the staff claimed that labour was not imminent and that she would require surgery at a higher centre. On persistence they allegedly demanded money. Moments after leaving the hospital premises, Kaushar Begum went into active labour and gave birth just outside the hospital gate.
Her husband, Mohammad Kaushar, alleged that the delivery occurred while they were exiting after being turned away. The incident sparked protests by family members, who accused hospital staff of negligence and demanding money. Local activist Mohammad Aamir recorded a video capturing the aftermath and arguments which was uploaded on social media.Chief medical superintendent Dr Kishor Ahuja said an inquiry has been initiated. Both mother and newborn are stated to be stable.
