26-year-old Delhi HC lawyer dies by suicide at four-star hotel in Connaught Place

New Delhi: A 26-year-old advocate practising at the Delhi High Court allegedly died by suicide after jumping from the 15th floor of a four-star hotel in central Delhi’s Connaught Place on Sunday evening, police said.According to police, information about the incident was received at the Connaught Place police station around 9.15 pm. The Delhi Fire Service (DFS) also received a call at about 9.20 pm, following which a fire tender was rushed to the spot.A police team reached the hotel and identified the man as a resident of the Mohan Garden area in southwest Delhi. He was immediately taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.DCP (New Delhi) Sachin Sharma said the man checked into the hotel on Saturday around 6.30 pm.A senior police officer said a suicide note was recovered from the hotel room, along with liquor bottles. The officer added that the man reportedly contacted a former girlfriend before the incident, who later alerted his family through a common friend.Crime team officials and personnel from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) inspected the scene and collected evidence.

CCTV footage from the hotel premises and surrounding areas is being examined.Police said statements of the deceased’s family members have been recorded and that they have not raised any suspicion of foul play so far.Efforts are underway to ascertain the circumstances that led to the incident.TOI reached out to the four-star hotel for a comment, but no response was received.A similar incident was reported in Jan this year, when a 50-year-old property owner allegedly died by suicide after jumping from the 20th floor of another hotel in Connaught Place.
