The consignment, brought from Haryana, was seized on suspicion, and samples were sent for laboratory testing.

Meerut: Food safety department in Hapur destroyed nearly 15,000 kg of adulterated honey worth around Rs 22 lakh, officials said. The case dates back to Jan 6, when a team of the Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA), led by assistant commissioner Sunil Kumar, conducted a raid at a warehouse in the district. The consignment, brought from Haryana, was seized on suspicion, and samples were sent for laboratory testing. The reports have now confirmed that the honey was heavily adulterated, making it unsafe for human consumption.“Honey is widely consumed for its medicinal benefits, but if it is adulterated, it can cause serious harm to the body. In this case, the honey was found unsafe for consumption. It has been seized and destroyed,” said Sunil Kumar, assistant food commissioner, Hapur. He added that the seized stock had no proper branding, expiry date, or mandatory labelling. The department is now preparing to initiate legal proceedings against Ankit Garg, proprietor of Tungnath Traders, and other accused. “A heavy penalty is likely to be imposed,” Kumar said.
