Varanasi: Amid renewed political focus on the stalled women’s reservation legislation in Parliament, chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday reviewed preparations in Varanasi ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposed visit to his parliamentary constituency on April 28, when he would address a grand public meeting to expose opposition parties for blocking the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam.On a two-day visit to the city, the CM directed officials to complete all preparations for the ‘Mahila Sammelan’, saying adequate arrangements must be ensured at the venue, including security, parking, drinking water, and other facilities.In the wake of the opposition parties derailing a bill to implement women’s reservation in Parliament, the BJP’s women’s wing, Bharatiya Janata Mahila Morcha, is holding mandal-level meetings to mobilise over 50,000 women for Modi’s public meeting in Kashi. Several meetings have been held to hammer out a strategy to expose opposition parties for blocking the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam in Parliament and making people aware of their “anti-women face”.
It would be an all-women-managed rally of PM Modi in his parliamentary constituency.Taking stock of the arrangements, the CM placed special emphasis on cleanliness not only at the venue but across the city, and directed that stray dogs and loose cattle be kept in shelter homes. Proper management of street vendors must also be ensured.He gave special emphasis on watertight security arrangements for the event and directed the officials to make better route diversion arrangements so that the general public faces no inconvenience.
Divisional commissioner S Rajlingam gave a PPT briefing on projects slated for inauguration and foundation laying during the Prime Minister’s proposed visit. Reviewing the ropeway project, the chief minister told officials to speed up work. He also directed that the International Cricket Stadium at Ganjari, under construction, be completed on a war footing. The Commissioner said work would finish by the first week of July.The CM further ordered that road widening at Manikarnika Ghat and Dalmandi be expedited and completed on time.Ahead of the PM’s visit, the officials have compiled lists of projects ready for inauguration and new projects for foundation-laying ceremonies. So far, 48 projects of Rs 6,784 crore in both categories have been included. Among the major projects for which the PM will lay the foundation stone, the proposed double-decker bridge over the Ganga parallel to the iconic Malviya Bridge is at the top.
