Patna: Patna municipal commissioner Yashpal Meena has called for geo-tagging and CCTV monitoring of all city garbage points and the closure of 880 illegal meat shops following a review meeting for Swachh Survekshan 2026.
The directive aims to prevent the reactivation of 650 previously cleared garbage points by anti-social elements and address the operation of unauthorised vendors across six municipal zones.Under the new enforcement measures, the integrated control and command centre will use IoT-based cameras to identify individuals littering after collection hours, with repeat offenders facing the sealing of their properties or commercial establishments. The crackdown on open meat and fish trade follows an audit which identified only 72 licensed shops out of 1,420 surveyed establishments. The zonal breakdown of prohibited shops includes 291 in the New Capital circle, 235 in Pataliputra, 76 in Kankarbagh, 151 in Bankipur, 10 in Patna City and 117 in Azimabad. Assistant public health and waste management officers have been instructed to immediately remove open-air stalls and seal permanent shops lacking valid documentation.
Beyond enforcement, the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) is prioritising infrastructure and sanitation logistics. Executive officers have been tasked with coordinating with engineers to inspect road projects and report progress to the headquarters. The meeting also reviewed the progress of drain desilting, removal of construction and demolition waste and the operational status of public toilets.
