Advocates take out rally to demand free health insurance cover

Kanpur: Advocates took out a protest rally under the banner of the Adhivakta Kalyan Sangharsh Samiti on Monday demanding free health insurance or cashless medical treatment for them and their families.Dressed in black coats with white bands, the advocates tok out their rally from the Kanpur Bar Association gate and marched to the district magistrate’s office, where they raised slogans in support of their demands.Addressing the gathering at the DM’s office gate, the Samiti convener Ravindra Sharma said that the government has not given free medical insurance cover to the advocates due to which they and their families do not get proper healthcare facilities. The legal fraternity has long beenstruggling for either cashless treatment or inclusion under the Ayushman scheme, Sharma said.A delegation of the samiti had met chief minister Yogi Adityanath a few months ago in this regard but no concrete steps have been taken so far. “We welcome the government’s decision to provide cashless medical treatment to around 9 lakh teachers and their families. We demand that similar benefits should also be extended to the advocates, either through cashless treatment or by including them in the Ayushman scheme,” he said.Later, a memorandum was handed over to SDM Jwala Prasad, who assured to forward it to the chief minister’s office for appropriate action.
