CM: Bahuguna legacy inspires generations

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath pays floral tribute to former Chief Minister Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna on his birth anniversary at his statue in Lucknow, Saturday

Lucknow: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday paid tributes to former chief minister Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna on his birth anniversary and called him “an important pillar of Indian politics”.“Bahuguna ji made a strong impression on people as a prominent student leader at Allahabad University. He was actively involved in the freedom movement of the country. After independence, in the first general elections of 1952, he became a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly. He got an opportunity to serve as a minister in the state govt. His services as a minister of various departments and as CM of UP, in addition to minister of various central govt ministries, were commendable,” Yogi said.The CM said Bahuguna’s vision for the development of UP was being implemented on the ground in the state even now. His contribution to the nation during his long political and public life was remarkable and serves as an inspiration for the present generation, Yogi added.Bahuguna was born on April 25, 1919, in the Pauri Garhwal district of the then unified UP, now Uttarakhand. After receiving his early education in his village, he moved to Prayagraj for higher education. From 1942 to 1946, he participated in the Quit India Movement, for which he was also imprisoned by the British.
