Garhwa: Locals staged a blockade after a youth was killed in a road accident near Ramgarh crossing in Garhwa district on Wednesday.The deceased was identified as Pankaj Kumar, 20, who was crushed to death by a speeding vehicle while crossing the road.
The locals blocked the road demanding compensation for the family of the deceased.The police after reaching the accident spot resorted to a mild lathicharge to disperse the villagers after failing to pacify them as they were adamant about the compensation demand. The angry villagers then hurled stones at a police jeep, in which the windscreen of the vehicle was broken.Garhwa superintendent of police Aman Kumar said, “No person was injured in the lathicharge. He, however, admitted that the windscreen of the police jeep was partly damaged in the stone pelting by the villagers.”
