Jaipur: Rajasthan reeled under an intense heatwave for the sixth straight day on Friday, with temperatures crossing 44°C in parts of the state and no rainfall recorded in the past 24 hours, the Meteorological Department said.
Jaipur recorded its hottest day of the season so far as the relentless heat disrupted normal life.Barmer was the hottest at 44.1°C, followed by Sriganganagar (43.9°C), Jaisalmer and Churu (43.6°C each), Bikaner (43.5°C), Pilani (43.4°C), Jodhpur (43.0°C), Kota (42.0°C), Ajmer (41.4°C) and Sikar (40.5°C).In Jaipur, the maximum temperature touched 41.8°C, 3.1 degrees above normal, while the minimum settled at a warm 28.5°C.
The scorching conditions kept roads largely deserted during peak afternoon hours.The heatwave has begun to strain civic infrastructure. Areas such as Jhotwara, Murlipura and parts of Sikar Road reported water shortages, while intermittent power cuts added to residents’ woes amid rising electricity demand.Health risks are also increasing, particularly for children, the elderly and outdoor workers, with prolonged exposure raising the likelihood of dehydration and heatstroke.
The Met office has forecast no immediate relief for Jaipur, with temperatures expected to hover around 42°C and clear skies prevailing over the next 24 hours. However, a western disturbance may bring slight respite around April 27, with chances of light rain or drizzle in parts of Jaipur, Ajmer, Kota and Bharatpur divisions.
