Kankana Chakraborty makes her Hindi feature film debut in Rajat Kapoor’s ‘Everybody Loves Shorab Handa,’ portraying Nazia. Initially feeling like an “odd one out” as the sole newcomer, she found this resonated with her character’s experience. Kapoor’s flexible direction and supportive cast, including Ranvir Shorey, eased her transition into the film industry.
Kankana Chakraborty has made her Hindi feature film debut with Everybody Loves Shorab Handa, directed by Rajat Kapoor. In the film, she plays Nazia, a character whose sense of not fitting in closely reflected her own experience on set.Being the only newcomer in a cast filled with experienced actors, Kankana said she initially felt like the “odd one out.” She found that this emotional state helped her connect with Nazia, who enters an unfamiliar social setting in the story.

Her journey to the film began after working with Rajat Kapoor in the 2019 web series Shobdo Jobdo. In 2021, Kapoor invited her to audition for the role, and after an improvisation-based audition process, she was selected to play Nazia.Speaking about the shoot, Kankana described Rajat Kapoor’s direction style as open and flexible, allowing actors to explore scenes freely. Though she found that approach challenging at first, she gradually adapted to the process. The actor also shared that working alongside performers like Ranvir Shorey gave her valuable exposure, while the cast made the environment comfortable for her as a newcomer.Kankana has been receiving audience feedback, which she says has been encouraging. She also mentioned that she hopes to work more in Bengali films and series in the future.
