Over 200 fall ill after wedding feast in Madhya Pradesh’s Sehore

BHOPAL: More than 200 people fell ill in a suspected case of mass food poisoning after consuming food at a post-wedding function in Sehore district of Madhya Pradesh. The incident was reported from Bawadiya Nauabad village in Ichhawar tehsil late on Wednesday night. Officials said over 1,200 guests had attended the event. Shortly after the meal, many complained of abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhoea, leading to a sudden rush of patients at Ichhawar Civil Hospital. The district health department dispatched a medical team and alerted the district hospital, mobilising additional doctors, paramedics and nursing staff. Two wards were reserved to manage the influx. While most patients were given primary treatment, more than 50 have been discharged.

Around 15 patients are still admitted at the Ichhawar health centre, while two others are undergoing treatment at the district hospital. Authorities said all patients are stable, though elderly people were among the more severely affected. Sources said some patients also sought treatment at private healthcare facilities. “Patients showed typical symptoms of food poisoning, such as vomiting and diarrhoea. With timely treatment, their condition is stable and improving,” an official said. Meanwhile, a team led by the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) has reached the village, and food samples from the function are being collected for testing to determine the cause of contamination.
