Dhanbad education authorities have withheld April salaries for 20 teachers at a Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya due to dismal CBSE Class X results. Only 7 out of 73 students passed, with most failing or getting compartments, particularly in math and science. Officials are taking corrective measures, including replacing some teachers, to improve academic quality and student performance.
Dhanbad: Education authorities in Dhanbad have withheld the April salaries of around 20 teachers, including the warden, at the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV), a CM School of Excellence, in Nirsa over poor results in CBSE Class X examination, officials said on Monday.
The action was taken on the directive of deputy commissioner Aditya Ranjan.District education officer Abhishek Jha issued an official order to stop the honorarium and salaries of all deputed and contractual teaching staff until further notice, officials said.The decision comes after only 7 out 73 students of the school managed to clear the Class X exam, while 62 were placed in the compartmental category and 4 failed in all subjects.
The poor results has raised serious concerns about the quality of education being imparted at the institution.Officials stated that accountability has been fixed on the teaching staff, leading to the withholding of salaries. The order further cautioned that if the school fails to show satisfactory improvement in the upcoming compartmental examinations, stricter action will be taken against the teachers and staff.
The department has also directed the school management to regularly monitor student attendance, improve teaching quality, and ensure better exam preparation. Special focus has been laid on conducting extra classes and providing academic support to weak students.“A detailed analysis of the results revealed that students particularly performed poorly in mathematics, where several students scored just 1 or 2 marks, and most failed to reach even double digits. Similar trends were observed in science, with 32 students receiving compartmental results,” Jha said, adding that they have gradually started to take corrective measures to improve their performances. “We have already started to remove a few teachers from Monday and replace with competent ones,” he said.Sources said that despite the recent appointment of 11 teachers with salaries ranging from Rs 70,000 to Rs 80,000 per month, the lack of improvement in results has further intensified scrutiny over the functioning of the school.
