DHAKA: Bangladesh cultural affairs minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury on Friday assured leaders of the Hindu community that “appropriate steps” would be taken to ensure the early release of Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das, who faces charges of sedition and murder. The Tarique Rahman-led govt is actively working to preserve the cultural heritage of minority communities while carrying out “necessary investigations”, Chowdhury, a prominent Hindu BNP leader and senior advocate, said without elaborating on the investigations being carried out.Chinmoy was arrested under the erstwhile Muhammad Yunus-led interim govt under seven charges in 2024, with a court on Thursday granting him bail in a land grabbing case. “I will raise the matter in the appropriate forum within the next few days and take necessary measures for his early release,” Chowdhury said at an event.
