Heavy rainfall in the city
The latest All India Weather Summary and Forecast Bulletin for the week dated April 22 shows that there will be active weather conditions prevailing in many parts of the nation for the coming days.
As per the bulletin released by the IMD, the regions receiving the maximum rainfall will be the Northeastern region with multiple states experiencing extensive rainfall with thunderstorm activity and strong winds.Assam and Meghalaya will see widespread rainfall along with heavy showers from April 22 to April 27. There will be heavy showers prevailing on April 22 and 24 whereas heavy to very heavy showers are forecast for April 25 to April 27.
In the state of Arunachal Pradesh, there will be heavy showers on April 22 and April 25, followed by very heavy showers on April 26 and 27.IMD has issued warnings of thundersqualls in the regions of Assam and Meghalaya on April 22 and April 25. Wind velocities ranging between 50-60 kmph will be followed by gusts up to 70 kmph. There might be a disruption in day-to-day activities with the possibility of uprooted trees, destruction of buildings and power outage in secluded areas.
Eastern parts of India are expected to experience changing weather patterns with thunderstorms and rains prevailing in many states. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are forecasted to have scattered or fairly widespread rain showers between April 22 to April 27, with intense rainfall on April 26. In Gangetic West Bengal, rain and thunderstorms are expected between April 24 to April 26. Thunderstorms will occur in Odisha between April 22 to April 25, whereas Jharkhand will have rainfall on April 24 and April 25.

Additionally, IMD has issued a warning for thundersqualls in Bihar on both April 24 and April 25 whereas thundersqualls may be experienced in Gangetic West Bengal on April 26. The wind velocity during the above-mentioned events can vary between 50-60 kilometers per hour, sometimes going up to 70 kilometers per hour.The northwest Himalayas will be influenced by the western disturbance, starting April 23 onwards.
Therefore, isolated to scattered light to moderate rain/snowfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds is anticipated in Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, and neighboring areas on April 24 and April 25 and in Himachal Pradesh on April 25 and April 26.The southern states of the country are also likely to experience pre-monsoon thunderstorms. The states of Telangana, coastal Andhra Pradesh, interior Karnataka, and neighbouring areas will receive scattered rains along with thunderstorms and gusty winds during April 22 to April 25.
Rainfall is also expected in Kerala and Mahe during April 22 and April 23, while Rayalaseema region might observe thunderstorm activities during April 22 and April 23.In its bulletin, the IMD stated that there was the presence of a cyclonic circulation over the regions of Telangana and nearby locations in the upper air layer, which was causing the unstable weather phenomenon in south peninsular India. Another trough that extends from Chhattisgarh to the Comorin region through Telangana, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu regions has also aided the development of thunderstorms.Western India will also be witnessing weather changes in states such as Maharashtra and Konkan regions. Scattered rains are forecasted for Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada regions during April 22 to April 25. In addition, hailstorm activities are also expected in the Madhya Maharashtra region during April 23 and April 24.Even as rainfall continues to affect various states, the heat wave warnings remain equally serious in other parts of the country.
The Indian Meteorological Department has issued warnings of heat waves in sporadic areas in Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh through the week. Odisha and Rajasthan will witness heat wave warnings from April 23 to April 25, whereas Vidarbha may observe the same from April 24 to April 26.Heat waves have also been predicted in Bihar and Gangetic West Bengal till April 22.
The concurrent occurrence of heat wave warnings and warnings of thunderstorms in neighboring areas brings into fore the highly unpredictable weather system that prevails in the country at present.The weather conditions will be hot and humid over the coastal and eastern regions, which includes Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Gangetic West Bengal. Uncomfortably humid conditions may also prevail in Konkan and Goa on April 23 and April 24.
Night warm conditions will prevail in Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi until April 22 to April 24, and in some areas in Chhattisgarh and Odisha.According to the temperature data announced by the IMD, the maximum temperature was recorded by Banda of Uttar Pradesh at 44.2°C in the plains on April 21. The minimum temperature was noted by Najibabad of Uttar Pradesh at 17.5°C in the plains.The department has advised that torrential rains could cause road floods, waterlogging in low lying areas, traffic snarls, poor visibility, and minor damage to kutcha roads and fragile buildings.
Landslides and mudslides may occur in hilly areas.The general weather situation for the next three days indicates widespread rain in Northeast India and western Himalayas, while scattered rains may take place in Gujarat and western peninsular India. Due to the occurrence of extremely hot weather along with intense thunderstorms in different areas at the same time, it can be anticipated that local situations would be monitored.
