Chandigarh Police arrest wanted criminal after brief encounter in Sector 25

CHANDIGARH: An operation cell team of Chandigarh Police arrested a wanted criminal after a brief encounter from Sector 25, Chandigarh, in the early hours of Wednesday. The accused sustained bullet injuries in his leg and was admitted at GMSH-16 for treatment.Vikash Sheokand, DSP, Operation Cell, Chandigarh Police, said the accused has been identified as Mukesh alias Golu Gohana, a resident of Gohana, Haryana.An operation cell team led by Inspector Satwinder Singh received information that the wanted criminal Mukesh is coming to supply weapons in the city and police laid naka near the cremation ground in Sector 25 in the early hours. As the accused arrived there and as soon as he noticed cops, he allegedly opened fire at the police party and fired three bullets at cops.

Luckily, no cop was injured in the firing and in retaliation, police also fired at accused Mukesh and one bullet hit him on his leg. After injury, the accused fell on the road and police rushed him to GMSH-16, where doctors stated his condition was stable.DSP said the accused Mukesh was declared a fugitive by the Chandigarh district court in the firing case of Maloya in 2021. His brother Sunny Gohana has also been lodged in Jhajjar jail of Haryana in connection with Arms Act and attempt to murder case. Police claimed that Mukesh is the main arms supplier in the city. Police recovered one sophisticated pistol and bullets from the spot. Police also recovered one sophisticated pistol and live bullets from the possession of the accused.
