If you have been following Matt Fitzpatrick recently, you may have noticed a change beside him on the course. After working for years with well-known caddie Billy Foster, Fitzpatrick made a quiet but important switch in early 2025.
That decision brought Daniel Parratt into a bigger role, and since then, things have slowly started to turn around for the English golfer. At first, the change did not bring instant success. Fitzpatrick struggled with form, and results were not going his way. But as the months passed, his game began to improve. With Parratt now working full-time on his bag, Fitzpatrick has found rhythm again, climbing back up the rankings and delivering strong finishes in big events.
Matt Fitzpatrick and Daniel Parratt partnership: From early struggles to strong comeback
The shift started when Billy Foster shared that constant travel was becoming too much for him. He decided to step back from a full schedule. During that phase, Daniel Parratt came in to help on selected weeks. For some time, both caddies shared duties. However, by March 2025, Fitzpatrick and Foster decided to part ways completely. That is when Parratt took over full-time. The timing was not easy. Fitzpatrick was going through a rough patch, and expectations were still high after his 2022 US Open win.
Things began to change at the 2025 PGA Championship, where Fitzpatrick finished tied eighth. It was a much-needed top-10 and gave a sign that progress was coming. Soon after, he added four more top-10 finishes in a row, including a strong showing at The Open Championship. His return to form also helped him earn a place in the 2025 Ryder Cup team led by Luke Donald. Playing alongside Europe’s best, Fitzpatrick scored 2.5 points from four matches, and the team lifted the trophy.
It was also a special moment for Parratt, who experienced a Ryder Cup win for the first time.Later in the season, the pair achieved a big win at the DP World Tour Championship, where Fitzpatrick defeated Rory McIlroy in a playoff. That victory stood out as one of their best moments together. Since then, Fitzpatrick has also finished runner-up at The Players Championship and added another PGA Tour win, pushing him up to World No.6.Talking about Parratt’s background, he has been a professional caddie since 2009 and has worked with several top players like Byeong Hun An, Tom Kim, and Alex Noren. One of his early highlights came with Calum Hill, when they won the 2021 Cazoo Classic. He also once spoke about his first time at Augusta while working with Thorbjorn Olesen. In a 2020 Titleist video, Parratt said: “That was one of the weirdest ones when I first went, I was working for Thorbjorn, because it was one of those courses where we both hadn’t been before but you almost know it so well – especially the back nine because you’ve watched it so much.”Off the course, Parratt lives a quiet life with his wife Gemma and their two sons, Brooks and Casey.
