Lucknow: Secondary education minister, Gulab Devi, on Tuesday inaugurated a two-day workshop to raise awareness about menstrual hygiene.The minister asked the teachers to communicate effectively with girls over menstrual health, and also requested them to invite mothers of students from IX and X, to educate them about menstrual hygiene and health risks associated with it.Director general of school education, Monika Rani, said that schools should promote toilet hygiene, monitor girls’ hemoglobin levels, focus on nutrition, provide information on the POCSO Act, and ensure safe disposal of sanitary napkins.The second phase of the training saw participation of two female teachers from each district of nine divisions—Agra, Aligarh, Basti, Chitrakoot, Jhansi, Mirzapur, Moradabad, Kanpur, and Saharanpur.Of the two, one is from a govt school and the other from the District Education and Training Institute (DIET).Organized by Samagra Shiksha, the initiative seeks to eliminate social stigmas related to menstruation, build confidence in girls, and provide them with a safe, respectful, and supportive educational environment, said an official.
