In a brazen act of audacity, a group of 7-8 robbers targeted a jeweller’s residence in Vaishali, employing explosives to sow panic among the family. They escaped with a significant haul of gold and cash.
Patna: A gang of 7-8 robbers broke into the house of a jeweller, Ranjit Kumar Sah, in Thanpur village under Mahnar police station area in Vaishali district on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, triggering panic in the area.The incident occurred around 1am when the robbers broke open the main gate and entered the house using a ladder brought from a nearby field. They climbed to the first floor and forced entry. On spotting the intruders, family members rushed to the terrace and locked themselves inside.The robbers, wearing face masks and carrying sticks and explosive items, looted around 50 grams of gold and Rs 50,000 in cash before fleeing.
Villagers alleged the gang detonated more than three bombs to create terror during the incident.The victim’s family and local residents criticised the police, alleging that despite repeated calls to the local police station and emergency number 112, the police arrived after nearly two hours. CCTV footage shows five robbers scaling the compound wall using a ladder, with others entering after the gate was opened from inside.
Vaishali SP Vikram Sihag said a preliminary inquiry found serious negligence. “It was found that ASI Shuklesh Kumar, who was deputed on Dial 112, reached the spot at night but failed to inform any senior officer and took the matter as a dispute between two parties. Similarly, Additional Station House Officer Sub-Inspector Uday Kumar Singh, despite being informed about the incident, did not take prompt precautionary action and also failed to escalate the information to senior officials,” Sihag said.He added both officers were suspended with immediate effect. “A special investigation team (SIT) led by Mahnar SDPO Praveen Kumar has been formed. The SIT is continuously conducting raids and intensifying efforts to identify and arrest the criminals at the earliest. The FSL team was called at the spot,” Sihag said.Mahnar SDPO Praveen said the CCTV DVR has been seized and a case registered. Police also recovered a tin box of tobacco left behind by the robbers.
