Drunk father slits toddler son’s throat, ends life in Jhansi village

Jhansi: A 38-year-old man allegedly slit the throat of his three-year-old son before taking his own life at Dhimarpura village under the Raksa police station limits in UP’s Jhansi on the intervening night of April 24 and 25.The accused, Prem Singh Raikwar, lived with his wife and three children, including daughters aged five and four, in a joint family setup. Police and family said Prem attended a wedding Friday night and drank heavily. He returned home around midnight and argued with his wife, Asha, over his drinking habbit. Asha and the children were sleeping in the courtyard at the time. After the fight, Prem took his son into a room to sleep. Sometime after midnight, Asha went to check on them, when she saw her husband hanging from the ceiling and her son lying motionless in a pool of blood. She immediately raised an alarm, prompting villagers to gather and inform the police around 2 am. Upon arrival, police broke open the door and recovered both bodies, which were later sent for postmortem.Circle officer Sadar Ramveer Singh said the toddler’s body was found with throat slit. Initial findings suggest that the crime may have been committed under the influence of alcohol following a domestic dispute.
